With President Trump demonizing immigrants and inciting racial fears among his white supporters in the run up to the midterm election, it is understandable people are anxious and fearful about the future.

Fear is a great motivator and the more anxiety the president can generate, the more likely his supporters are to vote for what he is offering as an answer to their fears.

That this strategy may work among some Christians says much about the depth of their faith and in whom they have placed it. Christians are not fearful. We are not anxious for the future.

As it says in the First Epistle of John, “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgement, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love” (1 John 4:17-18).

If you have accepted the call and claim of Christ in your life, cast your ballot in love, not fear. Be bold now as you will be on the day of judgement. As he is, so you are in this world.
